It’s summertime - that wonderful time of year when Michiganders shed their snow pants and dust off the grill, the golf clubs, and the lawnmower! But, we at Michigan & Kent County CASA would like you to suspend your celebration for just a moment and think about the upcoming 2017/18 school year. Remember your first day of school and how anxious you were? Will my new teacher be nice? Will the homework be hard? What if I don’t make the football team or the cheer leading squad? Now magnify those fears by a factor of ten because you are a foster child, going to yet another new school where you don’t know anyone! Will the other kids like me? Will they know that I don’t live with my mom? Will they know that I get a different lunch? It’s our job to advocate for Michigan’s abused and neglected children in the courtroom, but this year, we want to expand to the schoolroom with our Backpack Buddies Project.
Here is how you can get involved:
Make a monetary donation to our Backpack Project. A gift of just $30 can provide a backpack and supplies for one child.
Donate new backpacks and school supplies directly by contacting Rachel at (616) 259-7200 or email Rachel@michigancasa.org. She will put you in touch with your local CASA office and make arrangements for pick-up or drop-off of your donation.
Become a donation drop-off site. Contact Rachel to make arrangements to receive a drop-off box and information for posting.
Print off the poster and partner with Backpack Buddies!
