Michigan CASA invites you to experience The Power of One on May 15, 2018 at Thousand Oaks Country Club. We will highlight the difference ONE caring adult can make in the life of a child in foster care.
Former foster child-turned-motivational-speaker, Josh Shipp, will share his story with us. By all accounts, Josh was supposed to be dead, in jail, or homeless. At 14, he’d been kicked out of so many foster homes that it became a game. He acted out because he didn’t trust anyone, and he didn’t expect that to change – ever. So, why are we able to hear his story today?
The Answer: One Caring Adult.
We will also hear from Kierra, a former CASA youth. Kierra met Cynthia, her CASA volunteer, when she was 13 and a freshman in High School. She didn’t like Cynthia much at first. In her mind she was just another “systems” person. But Cynthia was undeterred. Kierra began to learn that Cynthia was always there to listen, support and love. Kierra is now a freshman at Michigan State University. How did that happen against all odds?
The Answer: One Caring Adult
